Researching in different types of school magazines

Comprehensive school magazine are very similar to public school magazine, and it’s sometimes difficult to figure out which ones which. From the comprehensive school magazine ‘Evoke’ we see how it continues to use the conventions used within public school magazine, such as the depiction of the image, the colour and title.



Public school magazines differs significantly in comparison to a independent school magazine. There usually more formal and provide a more traditional element, which establishes mainly the school theme. From what we see in public school magazines they do not contain the usual magazine conventions.




Independent school magazine tend to promote the school itself by establishing the schools content, environment, events, pupils and achivements, they always use pictures, interviews and present the magazine with such colour and style it then gives the school a postive view.

From my research I found out that the style of a school magazine depends on the type of school it’s from, in England there are three different types of schools Independent, Public and Comprehensive schools. During the research I noticed that there is a huge difference within the school magazines produced by these difference schools









Usually school magazines are made with such colour and pictures it then leads to attract the students and parents into reading the magzine. Here are a few school magazines.

In order to create a school magazine I need to understand the style, format and conventions of existing school magazines. So I firstly need to research various existing magazines in order to give me knowledge and understanding of how school magazines work. Once I gain the knowledge and understanding about the ways in which school magazine work I will then be able to us the style, format and conventions of these existing school magazines and use it to create my magazine.

School magazines are made for the purpose of those within the school. There normally targeted to students and parents. School magazine are mainly used to promote the school, it could be promoting the school for the purpose of making the school look attractive and fascinating. Their often used for the sake of promoting the school for the students, as schools are made for students. The use of school magazines therefore makes the school look like a cool place which holds fun activities and events. It also keeps students up to date with things that are happening in the school, the outer world, or the schools/students achievements. At the same time school magazine are usually used to promote the school to parents, letting them know what’s happening within the school, or for the parents who are applying their child to the school.
