Completed Front Page and evaluating my work with an existing school magazine.

For my school magazine production, I created a school magazine called ‘The Student Pursuit’, this reflects the idea that Hampstead Sixth Form students are in an act of pursuing their A levels. The title is established as the main subject of the magazine, similar to all magazines the title is present in order to create familiarity with its audiences, once our readership (students/parents) look at the magazine they will be easily able to identify the title, and as a result they know that this is their school magazine. The title is of a large bold black font, making it identifiable and attractive, similar to ‘High Profile’. An image of a school magazine plays a vital role, as it has the ability of appealing to its readers. In this High Profile magazine, they use an image expressing the fun, enjoyable and happy school trip, this is shown through their smiling faces. Instead of what you see in ‘The Ruthinian’ with just the dull colours ‘High Profile’ would be much more appealing, as a result students are more eager to look inside. I wanted to choose an image which emphasizes the lively school content, similar to ‘High Prolife’. I used an image which illustrates the educational school environment, the image I chose was of two students in a library having fun reading a book, surrounded by a book shelve, this clearly appeals to the student readership as the two students reading makes it seems as if learning is fun. In ‘The Student Pursuit’ I stay in touch with the convention known as ‘coverlines’, in my magazine I express all the exciting features contained within the magazine, such as ‘MUN’, ‘UCAS’, ‘ History Trip’, ‘League Tables’ ect. The purpose of a coverlines is to attract the readers by alerting them about the most exciting features included in the magazine. This is also used in this ‘High Profile’, the coverlines include ‘Interview with Miss Evans’, ‘Granada Trip’ and ‘125th Concert’, these features similar to my magazine indicate the most important aspects within the magazine, as a result of these features the readership are more likely to want to flip over to these pages. The USP plays such a significant role within all magazine, it’s the most important thing a reader looks at when coming to decide whether they want to buy or read a magazine, a USP make a magazine look special and different from any other. In the ‘High Profile’ the USP includes an exclusive about a trip to Egypt, this in it self attracts its readership to look inside the magazine, as they will then have the opportunity to read the exclusive. USP’S could also take the form of being an free product, since my magazine is a sixth form magazine based around future choices I provide my readership with a free ucas card, with this it will support the students as they get discounts from companies such as Dominos, TOPMAN and ucasbooks. The use of this in my opinion will appeal to all students at Hampstead sixth form as once they get a hold onto our magazine, they will gain something (the ucascard). Both these magazine ‘High Profile’ and ‘The Student Pursuit’ continue to stay in touch with typical magazine conventions, such as using and developing USP’S and coverlines, and because of this both magazines continue to appeal to its readership .

Here i provide you with my final front cover. I also evaluate my magazine within an exsisting school magazine
