Types of articles: include News articles, Feature articles, Interviews and Profile articles.

Target audience: The range of musical genres covered in the magazine attracts a wide audiences, I feel that the magazine is targeted to young teens, young adults and adults, from both sexes. The variety of music contained in the magazine certainly appeals to all these groups of audiences; therefore it’s targeted to them.

Sub genre (type of music): Similar to the rolling stones it does not have a set genre, its main interest is new releases and upcoming music stars, ranging from many musical genres.

Advertisement: due to the magazine being targeted to young teens/adults the adverts relates to them, this is shown through the care product ads, mobile ads, singles/albums ads and lastly the concert ads.

Types of articles: usually interviews, Profile articles; band/artist articles, also live concert articles.

Target audience:
The audience of NME is certainly teens and young adults, the musical genres covered in the magazine is loved and cherished by young teens/adults therefore the magazine is targeted to them. The front covers usually have an image of someone young in the music industry, this appeals to the young readership as they could relate to it.

Sub genre (type of music): NME covers a range of genres such as; Rock, Rock N Roll, Indie, Alternative, heavy metal. Even though there all different genres they have various similarities, such as they all produce band music, use instruments such as guitar, bass, drums ect. This is why the magazine covers these genres as they are very similar, this is supported by the fact that the magazine doesn’t cover R&B music as this genre is very different to these ones.

Cost: £2.30, a cheap price, it’s cheap because it’s targeted to teens, therefore making it easier for them to buy.

NME

I have here provided you an analysis of a ‘NME’ magazine, noting the conventions.

Here are some of its front covers.

NME

Advertisements: the magazine contains a variety of adverts. In a way due to the range of features within the magazine its sensible to have a range of adverts. The magazine contains features about music so the magazine includes music adverts (such as App ad), magazine contains feautres about TV so it includes TV adverts (such as HBO). It’s unusual for a music magazine to contain a TV advert, even though this is said it continues to stay in touch with the typical magazine adverts, it continuous to use adverts about Cars, Mobiles and food (these are typical adverts)

Types of articles:
The articles within the magazine vary.

The magazine contains News articles. These are articles which discusses recent news.
The magazine stays in touch with its political features it continues to publish recent news about politics.

The magazine also contains Profile articles, these are articles that are often a reporter’s interpretation of someone.
such as the exclusive Lil Wayne goes to jail article

Target audience: From research into this magazine I found that in the 50’s the magazine was well know for its political features. This shows that the magazine was targeted to those interested in politics. However the 90’s came along with the rise in fashion, teens, music and film, Therefore the magazine changed its format into becoming a magazine containing features about Film, Sports, Music. This allowed the magazine to appeal a more broder audience, as it contained a variety of media features. This shows that the magazine doesn’t have a set target audience, the broad range of features included in the magazine shows that it’s targeted to people within society who are interest in these aspects in the media; Music, Film, Sport and TV. The magazine is also targeted to both sexes this is shown through the front pages, it could appeal to the attract the female readership this is shown through the ‘Jonas Brother front cover’, at the same time the Jay Z cover attracts the male audiences (also the female, as his a renowned star).

Sub Genre of magazine (Type of Music) - The ‘Rolling Stone’ is an unusual music magazine. Even though it’s based around music it contains features about Film, Politics, TV and Sports. This gives the magazine a wide readership; this is due to the fact that the diverse range of content enables the magazine to attract to a wide range of audiences. The magazine doesn’t have a set music genre, however the magazine expresses a range of genres ranging from Hip Hop, Rock, R&B and Soul, this signifies how the magazine always has a strong audience as it deals with a wide range of musical genres.

Publisher:
Wenner Media

Cost:
Expensive in comparison to NME, this is because it’s a diverse magazine containing a variety of features, therefore making it costly as the publishers have to provide so different things within the magazine
